Trumpet Awards 2013 Honorees Announced: Rickey Smiley and Essence Atkins Will Co-Host Star-Studded Ceremony

The Trumpet Awards Foundation announced the 2013 Trumpet Award honorees including Chaka Khan, Debra Martin Chase, Michael McMillan, Alonzo & Tracy Mourning, Mayor Kasim Reed, Charlie Wilson and Edward Welburn. Comedian Rickey Smiley and Actress Essence Atkins will co-host the ceremony.

Atlanta, GA – The Trumpet Awards Foundation announced the 2013 Trumpet Awards honorees at a press conference in Atlanta. The Trumpet Awards Ceremony is one of the most respected televised award shows saluting African American achievement in the world. The following Trumpet Award honorees will attend and receive their award at the ceremony on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 4pm:

Chaka Khan – Legend Award

Debra Martin Chase – Entertainment Award

Michael McMillan – Community Service Award

Alonzo & Tracy Mourning – Humanitarian Award

Mayor Kasim Reed – Public Service Award

Charlie Wilson – Lifetime Achievement Award

Edward T. Welburn Jr.  – Corporate Award

The upcoming Trumpet Awards will be co-hosted by comedian and actor Rickey Smiley and actress Essence Atkins. The Trumpet Awards will be held and filmed at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. The show will be broadcast on national television networks and TV One.

Celebrity presenters for the 2013 Trumpet Awards were also announced and include David & Tamela Mann, Dr. Steve Perry, Tika Sumpter, Derek Luke, Verdine White and Eva Marcille. Scheduled performances during the Trumpet Awards include Fantasia, Luke James, Avant, R&B Divas: Faith Evans, Keke Wyatt, Nicci Gilbert, Syleena Johnson, Monifah, Tamela Mann, Raheem DeVaughn, TGT (Tyrese, Ginuwine, Tank) and Linda Herrington.
